Nested Churn Dash Quilt Along

Who is ready for a quilt-a-long of the Nested Churn Dash? Starting 1st June 2014, I will be taking you through the steps to make a 24" x 24" nested churn dash block.

Joining me will be 10 of my favourite quilters who will be making their blocks into a mini quilt.

For the more adventurous, you can continue on and using the 24" x 24" finished block you can make a pillow or mini quilt or make a quilt, ranging in size from 28" x 80" (1 x 3 block bed runner), 54" x 54" (2 x 2 block setting), 80" x 80" (3 x 3  block setting) and 106" x 106" (4 x 4 block setting). I will provide instructions for each setting.

I was so thrilled to be invited to the Nested Churn Dash QAL. When Jane asked me I couldn't wait to make it. I was at quilt market and I knew I wanted to make it out of what was left over from my next fabric line "Cherie" which comes out this July only a month away! I am excited about this collection because it has different looks. It is a low volume collection which means it has mid-tone values (low contrast,  white background, light colors.) So I wanted to try Jane's amazing pattern with this low volume look. I adore this mini quilt it is so fun and easy to make. I have made a churndash block before but never nested like this! I would love to make four blocks and put them together for a lap quilt.

Come on over and enjoy a summer get together with friends using this awesome Mini quilt.

I started my center with my darkest fabrics from the collection then graduated the colors out to the lightest fabrics.
I chose ART GALLERY FABRICS floral element FE -519 Icy Blue for the background. I had a tough time choosing my binding color, but I hope I made the right choice.

Makes a great wall hanging or table topper for entertaining and fits the colors of my home!

The quilting was done by my friend and local quilter, Frances Rice Ferrnand. She is amazing and I met her last Fall and she quilted all my Safari Moon projects and had to have her quilt This! Check out the sweet details.

In the last year I have fallen in love with Aurifil thread. It is the most amazing quality. So silky smooth. And the threads last forever, so you don't run out of bobbin so quickly. These are the colors I used for this project. The middle thread is one of my favorite colors that I like to use for piecing. I gave my quilter the last color spool to quilt this project. I love they way it turned out. The color is beautiful. Thank you so much for coming to my blog and I hope you enjoyed this post. Thank you Jane for inviting me to play along. Much love, Frances
